Momentum Monday: Never Stop Being Curious

Ah Monday, we meet again!  It is the last week we have an extra hour before until we jump into Daylights Savings Time, which begins next weekend.  This always makes me sad because I love sleep and this time change takes it away from me.  :(

Today kicks off a full week of recaps for the Princess Half Marathon.  I know it was a week ago already (a week ago!?! How time flies!) but there is so much to share that one recap wasn't going to be sufficient.  Therefore this is a week of Disney and runDisney, so get ready for pictures galore!

Today's Momentum Monday is taking a nod from Disney himself:

As we get older and grow into adulthood, we tend to lose our sense of curiosity.  Banking on the consistency of the path taken by others and not following the road less traveled.  There is a sense of security in those choices, you know what to expect and there are people that have had experiences along the way that can guide you.

Then there are those that let curiosity guide them.  It is not always successful, but those that are curious tend to find something that they grow passionate about.  They take pride in facing the unknown and allowing the book to be written by their experience, not by reading how others did it.

I am glad that my curiosity lead me to a blog last year that had recaps and pictures that left me in awe, and it was all about running a half marathon in Disney World.  I never knew that those existed, but I was also really bummed because I couldn't run that distance and was really wanting to be involved in this experience.  However the more and more I read about the race weekend, the more and more curious I got about the possibility of me running a half marathon.

Could I do it?  Would the training schedule be tough?  Is it worth it?

I eventually had my answers.  Yes, yes and yes.  Nothing that you want is going to be easy.  You have to work for it, fight for it and make it happen.  My curiosity led me to contemplation, then to research, then to decision, and finally to execution.

My curiosity put me on a path that I had no idea where it would lead me.  I had a map (training schedule) and a destination (Princess Half Marathon) but the paths I would have to take were foreign to me and the outcomes were unknown.  I am so thankful that I was brave enough to be curious and to let my curiosity take me on this journey.  I have learned so much about who I am and what I can do that I am constantly amazed at what I find everyday.  I've found that I am much stronger than I knew, more stubborn than I realized and increasingly grateful for the courage to pursue something I never thought was possible.

I can't thank the blogging world enough for opening my eyes and heart to the wonderful possibilities and opportunities that are out there.  I wanted to give a big thank you to the blogger that inspired this journey a year ago, Heather of Running With Sass, it was your recaps that piqued my curiosity.  I thank you for allowing me to follow along and allowing myself to dream big.

To all of those out there who are curious about something, don't shy away because someone else says they wouldn't do it.  They are not you and they could be keeping you from unlocking so many great traits about you that have not been discovered yet.  Whatever you do, never stop being curious, that path could lead to great things!

  1. OMG you are making me CRY! Girl, it is ALL YOU. I may have gotten you curious about running a runDisney race, but YOU put in the work, the time, and the training. Keep on dreaming BIG. The greatest risks bring the greatest rewards. Congrats girl! <3

    1. Thank you Heather! Without curiosity I never would have found the path that has brought me here. I know I did the work, but sometime the turtle needs the carrot dangled in front of them to get them moving on the path. :)

  2. You know, it was reading Running with Sass that finally got me off the couch and on my way to running a Marathon and starting my own blog, just like you. Hopefully WDW Marathon Weekend 2014 is my magical date with destiny. Maybe we should start a club! Inspired by Heather or something like that. LOL
