"The Jam" Thursday - What is blowing up my iPod

Oh yes! TGIT!!! I'm so glad it's Thursday, anyone else? It has been a short week due to the holiday, but anyone else feel like this week has just drug on? Not only was it a short week because of our day off on Monday, but I also have Friday off for my normal 3-day weekend. So in essence I've only had a three day work week. I know, I know...you can start hating on me now.

That being said, I don't really have any plans for this long weekend. So hopefully I can get rested and have a nice long run this weekend, 10 miles is in the schedule for Saturday morning! Woohoo! Haven't run that far in months, so to say I'm nervous is a huge understatement.

Training: Am I doing it and what for?

It's been a while since I posted anything about training for a race and if I had anything on the horizon. Between dealing with my back issue and not being able to run for over a month, my focus had turned to getting better rather than concentrating on my races coming up. So to answer the statement above, yes and yes. I am training and I have several things on the horizon.

Right now I am training for two half marathons with several smaller races mixed inbetween. Lets take a look at what I'm working towards.

My next race happens to be a 10K on June 15th. It's the Fall City Days Run, I will be running the 10K to try and get a new (and fast!) time for submittal to my half marathons for good corral placement. I have never run in Fall City before, however the website touts a flat and fast course, so hopefully that will be to my advantage! It will actually be my taper run before my next BIG race!

On June 22nd I will be running the Rock n' Roll Seattle Half Marathon.

Momentum Monday: Being Thankful

Today is a Monday, but also a holiday for our country. Not all people have the day off, nor do most people think about why we have the day off.  Most are just glad that they don't have to go to work and are able to spend time with family and friends while barbequing or enjoying the time together.

Today is Memorial Day, where we celebrate and remember the men and women who have fought and even died while serving and protecting our country and its ideals. Most of us will never know what it is like to serve in the military, yet most of us has been affected by it in a very personal way by relation to someone who is or was serving our country.

So today, I am wanting to say thank you for my Momentum Monday to all the people who fight everyday to keep our country safe and afford us the privileges we commonly take for granted.

"The Jam" Thursday - What is blowing up my iPod

It's Thursday and eerily quiet at every place I've been today. The roads were pretty empty during my commute. The Starbucks I go to which usually has a stream of people going in and out of, only had a couple of patrons. My office building is like a ghost town! Hardly anyone around and all the offices are dark. I'm sitting here wondering..."where is everyone? Is there an event I'm missing?"

Then it dawns on me, Memorial Day is on Monday. ::slapping palm on forehead::

I'm guessing everyone is getting a jump start on their holiday weekend. Though don't know what people are going to do in this area, there is NO SUNSHINE on the weather outlook for at least another week. It won't even be sunny on the coast! Sand and rain, woot woot! So I hope everyone is going somewhere that is warm and sunny! As for me, I will be having a stay-cation. Just enjoying time at home and maybe catching up on some much needed sleep. :)

Momentum Monday: Confession

Hello Monday...we meet again and way too soon for my liking.  I had a PACKED weekend with my best ladies and met some amazing women at the conference I was at, Mamacon! What is Mamacon, you ask?

Mamacon is a conference geared towards women in all stages of motherhood, to give them a day (and then some) to gather with other moms to share stories, tips, tricks, and commiserate on experiences. There are guest speakers that have backgrounds on many different topics from how to organize the clutter to how to dress your body type. This is the second year this conference has been held in Seattle, and is branching out to Chicago on October 5, 2013. So all you East Coast and Midwest mothers, mark your calendars and friend Mamacon on Facebook for more details.

"The Jam" Thursday - What is blowing up my iPod

Oh Thursday...why have you taken so long to get here? Is it just me, or did it feel like this week just drug on? It has been an abnormally long feeling week to me and I'm SO glad that I am off tomorrow and I have a three day weekend! It's going to be a PACKED weekend though. I'm going to a conference with some friends over the weekend so I'll be with my ladies for two nights. Two nights in a hotel with 4-5 of my best girls who are all away from their husbands and kids...I don't think there is going to be a sober moment.

Lord help me...and my liver.

I better pack my coconut water. (Coconut water = little to no hangover if you drink before you go to bed, well it works for me)

Running Tip Jar: Revisited

One of the best motivators I used for myself with training for my first 1/2 marathon was the "Running Tip Jar".  I posted about this when I first started training for the Princess Half Marathon at WDW. I would pay myself for all the miles I ran in training for the PHM weekend.  I would contribute to the jar $5 for each weekday run I would complete, then $1 a mile for my long runs. I would also keep track on my print out of the training schedule I kept clipped to the front of my fridge!

Momentum Monday: Just Run

Hellloooooooooooo Monday! It's the beginning of the week and raining. Boo! Where did our glorious sunshine go!?! I'm looking at the weather outlook for the week and all I see is rain. Looks like my Dumbo training will continue on in the rain! May showers bring June...mold?  I don't know, but it seems to be raining in other parts of the country too, so I guess we're not alone!

This weekend was an interesting one for me though.  On Saturday I was able to take my first long run since Easter weekend when my back issues started.  I was naturally nervous and wanting to be cautious about what I did during my run in hopes not to reinjure myself.

"The Jam" Thursday and some bling!

It's Thursday! Wait...it's only Thursday? Man! Has this week been long for anyone else or is it just me? On Tuesday it felt like it should have been Friday! Well this week is almost over, finally, and that means it's time for another Thursday "jam".  But not before I share some news released yesterday.

So back in January I registered for the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend and more importantly, the highly talked about inaugural Dumbo Double Dare Challenge where you run the inaugural 10k race on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday. If completed, you get the medals for both of those events AND a special challenge medal. Same premise as the Goofy Challenge during WDW Marathon weekend in January.

So for months there has been talk and speculation of what the medals will look like and when they will release the images for them.  Well the day was yesterday! I was wondering that since the Everest race had happened recently and there are no other races between that and the Disneyland Half weekend, that the announcement would come soon (don't want to take attention away from pending races). All I have to say is that runDisney outdid themselves with these medals, check these beauties out!

StrideBox: May box review

I was SO excited to see all the tweets flying around on Monday of all the people that got their StrideBox's in the mail that day, so I couldn't wait to get home that evening to see if my box had arrived.  To my total excitement...IT HAD!!!

Now I was curious how this box would fare after such a successful April box yielding some really great products.  Let me tell you, they did not disappoint!!

Race Recap: BMO Vancouver 8K

It thrills me to be writing this recap.  I wanted to run the BMO Half Marathon in Vancouver and almost signed up for it half a dozen times, but something always kept me from doing it. Then my back issue happened and I realized that I was really glad I hadn't spent the money because I knew I would not have been able to run that course.

However my good friend Danielle was running the half, so I decided to go up with her and cheer her on at the finish. Then she tempted me with entering the 8k...oh running peer pressure, how ruthless you can be. My doctor said I could run 5 miles and with this 8k just looking at me on the page saying "you know you wanna run me", I gave in and registered.  What can I say?  I'm weak for bling.

Momentum Monday: Renewal

Hello Monday morning!!!

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend and have wonderful plans for this week ahead of you! I'm coming off a jam packed race weekend myself and my butt is really dragging today.  It took me three tries to order and iced coffee this morning.  ICED COFFEE!!  That was the order, nothing more.  Iced coffee.  I swear what was coming out of my mouth wasn't English and no other language I know either, so the barista was highly confused.  Le sigh...

So today I wanted to dabble a bit in my race feelings for the Momentum quote today, without giving up too much for my recap tomorrow (race recap!!! I'm so excited to actually be typing those words!!).  So today's Momentum Monday is:

"The Jam" Thursday & May Sock of the Month!

Hello Thursday!!!  I'm pretty stoked because today is my Friday for this week!  Woohoo!!  I get two three day weekends in a row!  To my defense, I had two weeks of 50+ hours and five days a week, I was torched.  So I'm really glad I have this time off this weekend to decompress and get some cleaning done in the house!  I am also going on a little adventure up north with a friend on Saturday, but I'll talk more about that on Tuesday when I post my race recap. ;)

So today's "jam" is a fun song that I've been hearing on my Songza lists lately and always turn it up when it comes on.  Just a fun, catchy song that always seems to get my booty bumping and my legs pumping.  So today I present:

First day of May and lots of news!

Sorry it's been so quiet here the past few days.  I did not intend on missing my regular Momentum Monday posting, but I was out of the area (cell & wi-fi reception) until 5pm PST on Monday.  So a late night post didn't make much sense when you wouldn't see it until Tuesday.  I had no idea I would be unplugged for so long, but my hubby whisked me away to a remote area for the weekend to celebrate my birthday and once I was there, there was no turning back.  I literally had to use a pay phone to make a call.  A PAY PHONE!!!  I haven't seen those in so long!!!  We couldn't even dial long distance from our hotel!  Talk about remote!  But I will go over that later this week when I give my trip recap.  Until then, I have some really exciting news!
