"The Jam" Thursday - What is blowing up my iPod

Oh Thursday...why have you taken so long to get here? Is it just me, or did it feel like this week just drug on? It has been an abnormally long feeling week to me and I'm SO glad that I am off tomorrow and I have a three day weekend! It's going to be a PACKED weekend though. I'm going to a conference with some friends over the weekend so I'll be with my ladies for two nights. Two nights in a hotel with 4-5 of my best girls who are all away from their husbands and kids...I don't think there is going to be a sober moment.

Lord help me...and my liver.

I better pack my coconut water. (Coconut water = little to no hangover if you drink before you go to bed, well it works for me)

Good thing I have time to myself on Friday morning to get my long run in before this weekend. I just know that once everything starts up I won't have a free minute to get my training run in. I figure 9 miles before the festivities is a good way to help jump start the metabolism! Let's burn those liquid calories!!!

But before I sign off for today, I need to share my weekly "jam", the songs that get my legs pumping and my booty bumping. Today's jam was released a couple of years ago and I didn't hear it much on the airwaves, then it disappeared. Lately I've been hearing it come on the radio again, off and on, I'll catch the tail end of it as I'm flipping through the stations. It's got a great beat and I love the singer, she's got a great voice.

So without further ado, today's "jam" is:

I really like the beat and now that I finally found this song, it will be a long time addition to my running playlist. The lyrics speak to me as well. It talks about love, in a relationship way, but also can be used abstractly to apply to anything. I apply it to my running and how I feel when I "let it all go" and you feel like you're "on top of the world". You know those moments when you have this electricity that pulses through your body and get goosebumps on your skin. The strides are effortless and you are gliding with a huge smile on your face. That is the running moment that this song makes me think of. This song instantly raises my spirits and I know this will be a great song to put in at the end of a run to help me push through. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Question for you: Is there a go-to song you need to hear at the end of a long run to help you to dig in and keep going? Have any big plans for the weekend?

  1. LOTS of go-to songs and I totally get what you are saying about how the lyrics can be applied to anything. I have a lot of songs I listen to when I run that are like that! I hope you have a great run and a BLAST this weekend! I might have to try that coconut water trick! ;)

    1. Any songs in particular? I'm always looking for new music!

This weekend will be fun, can't wait to have uninterrupted time with my ladies!

As for the coconut water, definitely try. I have at least 8oz, followed by 8oz of water before I go to bed. Then I have the coconut water by the bed for when I wake up during the night thirsty. By morning I feel pretty good!

  2. Ooooh! Hard question is answer! I have such a weird mix of songs on my iPod, it really depends on the day, which song gets me going. When running, I don't so much listen to the lyrics as I do to the beat. S&M by Rianna has a great running beat, that pushes me through. Weird, I know! :)

    Have a fun weekend!!

    1. "to answer" not "is answer"!!! Is it Friday yet?!

    2. Oh honey, I feel you. I've had to re-read and re-do so many things today. Geez!

I know what you mean about the beat rather than the lyrics is what gets you through. I tend to put my faster tempo songs towards the end of my list to make sure I can push through the end of my run. That is a good song too!
