Momentum Monday: Bigger than yourself

Good Monday everyone!  I hope all of you had a great weekend, mine was far too short and more sleep was needed for sure!  I had an excellent day with the hubby yesterday though.  Brunch and vendor perusing at Pike Place Market was such a nice way to spend the morning.

Today is the start of another week and I woke up with a stiff back.  Ugh.  I've been feeling good for the past few days, so to wake up with a stiff back on the morning I'm going to attempt to start running again is really messing with my head.  I start thinking to myself if I'm even ready to begin running again.  Maybe my back is tight because I was thinking about running and I'm having a physical manifestation of my anxiety.  Maybe I slept wrong last night.  Who knows?!?

I just know one thing, whether I run the mile I'm cleared to run or walk the whole time, I am participating in the tribute run for Boston at Greenlake today.  It starts at 6:15 for a run around the lake together in solidarity and support for Boston and runners all over the world.

So today's Momentum Monday quote is actually two separate ones, I just couldn't decide between the two, so I'm using both.

For my own sake and sanity, whether I have a stiff back or not, I will be running for those effected in Boston and the runners it has impacted all over the world.  We may be individuals striving for our individial goals, but we all are a part of something much bigger than ourselves.  That has been proved time and time again over the past week with tribute and memorial runs across the nation.   Runners gathering together and running to remember and pay tribute.  No ego, just running together as a community.  It is inspiring, gut wrenching and uplifting at the same time.  Which made this next quote all that much more poignant:

This tragedy has formed and strengthened so many bonds and friendships within the running community.  The community is a tight knit group as it is, but the actions from the race and what preceeded it have made those bonds and that knit within the group that much stronger.  I can't wait to be among all the people at the lake tonight, running in unity and peaceful solidarity for all those in Boston and around the world.

  1. Good luck on your run tonight, and I hope your back feels better. My lower back causes issues for me too - not sure if you have the same thing or not!

I like the quotes you've paired with your quote. There is so much more out there, and it is all bigger than us as individuals. Its so beautiful when we come together and make something bigger than we could ever dream. Seeing the running community come together has been just that!

    1. Thanks Alicia! The run went well last night, so I feel pretty relieved!

Seeing the running community come together has been so inspiring and just makes me want to get out and run even more than I did before. :)
