"The Jam" Thursday - What is blowing up my iPod

It's Thursday and I couldn't be happier!!  It is my Friday and I get a FOUR DAY WEEKEND!!  WOOHOO!!!  I've been super busy lately and working a whole bunch, so getting an extended weekend this week is a much needed break!  Hubby is whisking me away for the weekend and not telling me what we are doing.  It's exciting, so I can't wait for this weekend to begin!

I did get some bummer news from my Chiro last night though.  I told him about my positive experience with running and asked if I could start increasing mileage, and he gave me an emphatic "NO!".  My heart sank.  He has been so pleased with how I am healing he doesn't want me to ramp up too early and risk re-injurying myself.  He said I have to keep it at one mile, with running and walking and we will review my progress next week.  I completely understand this and my logical side agrees, but the part of me that wants to break out and get back to running 6 miles with ease is pissed as hell.

#BostonStrongSeattle Run and my birthday!

Yesterday I got to be involved in a tribute run for Boston that was hosted by local companies Super Jock & Jill, Oiselle, Kinetics Sports Rehab and my friends at Gametiime.  The hope was to get as many runners as we could together to run around Greenlake (out and back was 5K) in solidarity for the Boston tragedy.

I was excited because I had finally been cleared to run by my doctor.  After three weeks of not running at all, I was excited to get out and pound some pavement, even if I was only allowed to run one mile!

Momentum Monday: Bigger than yourself

Good Monday everyone!  I hope all of you had a great weekend, mine was far too short and more sleep was needed for sure!  I had an excellent day with the hubby yesterday though.  Brunch and vendor perusing at Pike Place Market was such a nice way to spend the morning.

Today is the start of another week and I woke up with a stiff back.  Ugh.  I've been feeling good for the past few days, so to wake up with a stiff back on the morning I'm going to attempt to start running again is really messing with my head.  I start thinking to myself if I'm even ready to begin running again.  Maybe my back is tight because I was thinking about running and I'm having a physical manifestation of my anxiety.  Maybe I slept wrong last night.  Who knows?!?

I just know one thing, whether I run the mile I'm cleared to run or walk the whole time, I am participating in the tribute run for Boston at Greenlake today.  It starts at 6:15 for a run around the lake together in solidarity and support for Boston and runners all over the world.

So today's Momentum Monday quote is actually two separate ones, I just couldn't decide between the two, so I'm using both.

"The Jam" Thursday - What is blowing up my iPod

Oh Thursday...we meet again.  I'm supposed to have a three day weekend this week, but with the craziness that is happening at work, I had to switch my long weekend to next week.  Long week for me unfortunately, so you know what helps?  MUSIC!

Today's "jam" is something I've heard just recently on my Songza lists.  OH!  Songza!!! I've gotta tell you about this app!  It's like Pandora in that it's a radio station, but it's different because it's a set song list that has no commercials.  It keeps playing even if you leave it alone for hours (doesn't pause the music and ask if you are still listening) and just has a fantastic mix of music.  You've gotta download it and take a listen, I've been HOOKED!

The spirit of a community

In today's world with the constant barrage of horrible news, gruesome pictures of human attrocities and societal/political damnation of our ability to think/make decisions for ourselves, we tend to become numb after a while.  We watch the news or a movie and scenes that would have shocked and horrified us years ago have suddenly become commonplace.  We have accepted that bad things happen and seem to let these images numb our empathy.

Yesterday's events slapped me in the face...and I suddenly was not numb anymore.

Momentum Monday: Stepping into Darkness

Today is a very inspirational day for many runners around the country and possibly world.  Today was the Boston Marathon.  Even when I wasn't a runner I knew about the Boston Marathon and was in awe of the people who were able to run it.  Now that I am a runner, I still am in awe of the people who qualify for it (didn't know that before) and who can actually run the race.  It's a rite of passage of sorts to actually qualify and run the Boston Marathon, so I can comprehend the feelings of pride for being a part of it.

At the same time that running is being celebrated on one side of the country, I am on the other side looking at my shoes and wishing I could be a part of that celebration.  I am into my third week of not running due to injury; and it's torture.  I am slowly getting better and my body is repairing itself.  So it's not all doom and gloom, it is just tough to make the justification for more rest time when all you want to do is run.

"The Jam" Thursday - What is blowing up my iPod

It's Thursday and a couple of really cool things have happened to make today a pretty good day.

First, is I went to a new chiropractor last night and finally got adjusted.  YYYAAAAYYY!!!  I've been dealing with back pain for a week and a half now with minimal relief, it was slowly getting better, but had stalled out the past couple of days.  So off to find a new chiro, since mine went out of business, and see if getting adjusted would help my back get better more efficiently.

StrideBox: April box review

Today is a special post!  I am going to be showing off a new (to me) product!  A month ago I started seeing this company pop up on Twitter and Facebook.  I read up on the company and really was intrigued by what they offered, so I decided to take the leap.  I signed up for the monthly box subscription called StrideBox.  For $15 a month, they send you a box of full sized samples of items geared towards the needs of the runner.  Whether if be fuels, pre- or post- run nutrition or even objects that help make running more enjoyable.

I was so excited to get in on the subscription before they had to start a waiting list (doh!), but that is a good sign for the company when you have to start a waiting list for people wanting your product.  KUDOS!  So needless to say I was crazy excited when I saw this box arrive on Friday.

Momentum Monday: Peanut Gallery

Monday is here again.  Another beginning to another week.  I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I know mine was full of rest and relaxation to help my back continue to heal.  It is much, much better than it was a week ago, but still no where near 100%.  This is just going to force me to take it easy for another week to let my back recoup.  I'm hoping to get into a chiropractor today for an adjustment too.  I know some people are not fans of chiros, but I know my back and hip situation and I'm confident than an adjustment will help the recovery process for my back and keep me from re-injuring.

So during my process of recovery from this injury I came across some interesting information.

Feedback.

Or rather "comments from the peanut gallery".  So when I saw this below, I knew I had to talk about it today for Momentum Monday.

"The Jam" Thursday - What is blowing up my iPod

Thankful it's Thursday, is my mantra today!  I have tomorrow off (I love my schedule of every other Friday off!) and I'm going to try and get in for a massage and adjustment tomorrow in hopes that it will help with my back pain.

So in the meantime, let's get some music up in this joint!  We need some feel good music to get into the weekend mood!  Today's "jam" is a newer song and it's ALL OVER the airwaves.  A great first release from his 3rd and long awaited album, you can't help but want to move when you hear this song!  So without further ado, today's "jam" is:

Learning when to take it easy

I don't know about you, but I find it easier to spread helpful knowledge and advice, than actually take and implement it.  I know, I know, the whole "practice what you preach" issue always comes to mind, but I just can't help it, I'm bull-headed, it's in my nature.

I am injured right now and there is no rhyme or reason to it.  I didn't fall or pick up something the wrong way, or even overwork something to the point of injury.

Momentum Monday: Good Mood!

Good Morning All!!!  Welcome to Monday AND the first day of April!!!  I can't believe it is April already, is it just me or is this year FLYING by?!?  Don't worry, there will be no April Fools Joke from me, I've never been a fan of practical jokes or making people feel bad for my own amusement.  Today is business as usual and Momentum Monday!

Today's quote was very much true for me this weekend and need to be a constant reminder to me when I'm feeling stressed or upset about life.
