End of Week 13 Double Dare Training and Race Info!

It's Wednesday and...wait, it's Wednesday? When did that happen? I mean I don't mind the week going quickly, but that means the race weekend is that much closer! How much closer? 26 days! Holy cow!

Let's talk training!

Tuesday: 30 minute run
Thursday: 30 minute run
Saturday: 4 miles with Magic Mile

Let's start with Tuesday. I've been riding the wave of getting out for my runs on Tuesdays and LOVING it. However when I woke up this past Tuesday, my hips and lower back were quite angry with me. If being laid up for a month and a half with hip and back pain has taught me anything, it's to not push it when there is discomfort or pain for risk of further injury. I am not able to run without my hips and back being in working order and not in pain. So in order to not make the situation worse, I took the day off from running and let my hips and back relax and workout whatever kinks were in there.

Momentum Monday: Wishing

Another crazy weekend that went far too quickly has spilled over into Monday. I swear it was JUST Friday! What happened?!? I hope your weekend was just as fun and full of activities as mine was and that you are starting this new week looking forward to next weekend. HA!

A recurring theme that came up this weekend very randomly for me is touched on by today's Momentum Monday quote.

These words are so very true.  Let me give you some examples of  how I encountered these this weekend.

"The Jam" Thursday

I kind of have a love-hate relationship with Thursdays. They are the day before Friday so you have lots of anticipation for the weekend, however you are still another day away from the weekend. Thursday, you are such a tease!!!

Speaking of Thursday, it is time to share another "jam" of the week. Today's "jam" is one that has been on the airwaves for a while, but I still enjoy the song. The singer is a bit of a lost soul right now, tumultuous relationship with a certain someone, an apparent penchant for a certain green herbal drug and quite the amount of Twitter followers. If you can't figure out who I'm talking about, take a look at today's video.

Today's "jam" is:

End of Week 12 Double Dare Training

Wow...does that say week 12? There are only 19 weeks in the training guide, that means there are only 7 more weeks of training, well technically 6 weeks considering the week after the race is included in the training schedule as well. That means there are 6 weeks until the big race weekend. 6 weeks until I get to run through the castle at Disneyland. 6 weeks until I can hopefully get my Coast to Coast medal to top off an incredible year of running at Disney.

Less than 6 weeks, that's 37 days, until 22.4 miles.

Oh boy...let's get to the training!

Momentum Monday: Makes Sense

Where did the weekend go? It feels like I just went to sleep on Friday and woke up the next morning and it's Monday. It seems like we can't wait for the summer to come and all the fun and festivities it brings, then when it's finally here, it goes by so quickly. Can you believe this is the last full week of July already? Yeah, take a moment to ponder that. Next week it is August already. ::mind blown::  This summer is going by way too quickly, am I right?

During this seemingly whirlwind of a weekend, I got a nice long run in with some great ladies. I ran 6 miles, which was the longest run I have done since the Rock and Roll Half Marathon on June 22, yeah, that's a month ago. Sad right? Well I don't feel that way, and I'll tell you why. I took two weeks off from running due to a myriad of things, but the biggest issue of all was the lack of will to run. I didn't run a stitch and worried that I wouldn't be conditioned enough for my upcoming half in August.

Then over the past couple of weeks I have been slowly building up my running and trying to be more consistent with my runs. Unfortunately consistency isn't like a light switch, you can't just turn it on and expect it to stay on, you need to build it up and work at it. I'm running more during the weeks and building up my mileage. Over the past two weeks I really had a transition, a change in my thinking and being, and all I can credit to that is my running. So today's Momentum Monday quote has really fit in with my life and training recently.

Customer Service: A Dying Artform

I don't know about you, but I have been unpleasantly surprised about the lack of Customer Service from companies, just in general. I get the feeling nowadays that they feel that they have your money, you have the product and if there are any issues or problems, it is because I have an issue or problem, not because of their product.

I've run into this everywhere. Athletic shops, clothing stores, electronic stores, online stores, household wares stores, race promoters...everywhere. It just makes me feel so disenchanted with companies general ability to assist their customers and help them to have a positive experience with their product.

On the flip side, I have encountered a few companies that do everything they can to make their customers happy and possibly assist in making their purchasing experience with them a  good and positive one. I had one of those moments this week and I wanted to share it with you.

"The Jam" Thursday

I woke up this morning to a blissfully cool home. The clouds had rolled in yesterday and trapped the cool air in overnight. It was so nice I even needed my thicker covers to sleep comfortably. It was also PERFECT running weather. So I donned my running clothes, packed up my work clothes and went to work. I took a nice run along the waterfront with TONS of other runners and came back into work a hot and sweaty mess, but it felt great! I'm liking starting my days like this, I may try to do this more often!

Today is Thursday and we are slowly rolling towards the weekend, it is in my sights and I can't wait! I've got a group of ladies I'll be running with on Saturday, 6 miles are on deck for me. I know the schedule says 9 miles, but I need to ramp up to that mileage! Do you have any fun plans for this weekend? So today is Thursday and it's time for me to share with you another "jam", songs that get my legs pumping and my booty bumping.

End of Week 11 Double Dare Training

I received the best posts on Twitter from some dear friends, "You know what day it is? It's Hump day! Happy Wednesday!" Then that was followed up by "Yay for Hump Day and one day closer to Disneyland!" I couldn't have said to better myself!!!!

Happy Wednesday to everyone and I hope there are some fun plans coming up this weekend for you! We are officially 41 days from the beginning of the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend and 43 days from the half marathon race itself! Wow...it's getting so close! With just over a month left until the Dumbo Double Dare makes it's debut, I'd better get on my training! Here is what the schedule looked like for this week:

Tuesday: 30 minute run
Thursday: 30 minute run
Saturday: 4 miles run

Race Recap: See Jane Run 5K

I signed up for the See Jane Run 5k late last year. There was a coupon for a discounted entry through Zozi that was just too good to be true. I think the race rate was $25 and I had a $10 credit for that site, making this race entry only $15. What a score of a deal, right?

I had been off the training game for a couple of weeks, so when the race came up on Sunday July 14th, I felt like I could still have a good race and a stomp out a decent finish time. What I really loved about the race itself is that it was a female centric race, but did not exclude men. There were plenty of men running both the 5K and half marathon courses. Not to mention at the finish line you received a champagne glass full of See's chocolate and Barefoot champagne to toast with your fellow runners. Now I would say that is a pretty sweet ending to a race! But that's where it ends, what about where it begins? First stop was the expo!

Momentum Monday: The voice

It's Monday again and I don't know about you, but for me Mondays are pretty tough. I don't sleep quite as soundly the night before and I'm thinking ahead to the week and trying to figure out my plans for work and training.

My weekend was busy for sure! Was mostly at home taking care of business there, but I also had my See Jane Run 5k on Sunday. So there was the expo/packet pick-up on Saturday and the race and festivities on Sunday. The race brought up some feelings of anxiety and anger during the run, that I wanted to explore further today.

Today's Momentum Monday quote is exactly what I am needing to remind myself in racing and training:

Rock and Roll After Party - OnlineShoes.com featuring Brooks Running

During my race recap for the Rock and Roll Seattle half marathon I had mentioned that I was able to take part in a Seattle blogger opportunity and that it actually deserved it's own post because it was so great. It was hosted by OnlineShoes.com and featured Brooks Running.

So let me give you a little back story first. Both OnlineShoes.com and Brooks are local businesses to the Seattle area. Brooks sponsors tons of local events and has a HUGE presence in the running community in the greater Seattle area. OnlineShoes.com is an online resource for all types of shoes and has their headquarters in downtown Seattle where they have a gorgeous view and equally lovely offices (I got to stop in there!). This year for the Rock and Roll Seattle marathon races, OnlineShoes.com hosted a blogger after party event that featured Brooks to be held after the race in a location just a block away from the finish line and they invited a number of local bloggers to attend. I was one of the fortunate few that got to take part in this event! I was SO excited.

"The Jam" Thursday - What is blowing up my iPod

It's Thursday already and I couldn't be more happy about it. I have a long weekend ahead of me packed with plans and a race thrown in on Sunday. I'll be running the See Jane Run 5K on Sunday starting and ending at Gasworks Park in Seattle. It sounds like a great event and I'm excited to run it! There will be tons of people I know running either the 5K or half marathon that is taking place at the same time. I chose to do the 5K because I didn't know what type of shape I would be in and if I could handle the half marathon. I'm glad I erred on the side of caution and signed up for the 5K because I'm in no shape to be running a half this weekend.  Instead I will be taking a fun run with tons of other women and enjoying a fun little party at the finish line.

It is Thursday afterall and time for me to share today's "jam". It seems that over the past year it has been a return of the boy bands and even the re-emergence of boy bands from my adolescence (wow that makes me sound old). Regardless, you can't help but get caught up in some of the catchy tunes that these bands are producing, including the one I am sharing today. I especially enjoy listening to this song during a morning run when the sun is rising and the sky is just starting to brighten up. It certainly gets my adrenaline going and get pumped during my run.

End of Week 10 Double Dare Training

So yesterday was the official opening of registration for the Tinkerbell Half Marathon in Disneyland in January of next year.  All the excitement and chatter on the boards from the people registering and planning for the race, just made me all the more excited about my upcoming race in Disneyland in Aug/Sept that I've just been floating for the past two days.

For anyone that knows me, I'm a huge fan of Disney in general so when I found out last year that there were races at the parks, I was SO HAPPY! I get to combine my love of Disney and love of running, it's a total win-win.

StrideBox: July box review

It's always so nice to come home and see my StrideBox in the mail waiting for me at the beginning of the month. It's like Christmas every month, you know you're going to get a surprise and something you might actually like and use!

Momentum Monday: Reset

Another Monday and another week beginning. I typically feel hopeful about my schedule for the week on this day. I have a plan of what I'm going to do and how I'd like to accomplish it, now whether that actually happens during the week is yet to be known. Though I am hopeful I will meet my goals I've set out for the week.

I hope you all had a FABULOUS holiday weekend! I know some of you had a nice long weekend off to spend with family and friends, and there are some of you that were just like me and spent part of the holiday weekend working. Regardless, I hope you all had a time to relax, recharge and reset yourself for the coming week.

Speaking of reset, I am in the process of resetting my thinking and getting back on track of training.

"The Jam" Thursday - Holiday Edition

Happy 4th of July everyone!  I hope you all are having a great day hanging out with family and friends, enjoying each others company and celebrating our country! Please also be safe out there, some people have too much fun and make poor decisions. So please be careful and watch over each other!

Today is a day off (yay!) and it's the "jam" Thursday (yay yay!) so I was trying to find a song that is fun to run to and possibly has a theme that's somewhat patriotic.  Well, I wouldn't really dub it patriotic per se, but it is a fun song (though I can't believe I'm admitting this). It's a song done by a singer that has seen her image go from squeaky clean to that of constant tabloid fodder. She hasn't even released music in years and no longer performs, yet I see her being reported on daily.  Oh well...to the music right!?!

End of Week 9 Double Dare Training

It's Wednesday already and kind of a Friday feel with the holiday tomorrow. The weather is nice, people are chatty and talking excitedly about their plans for this holiday weekend. Most of my office is out for the long weekend, I however, will be back in the office on Friday to take care of business. Oh well, who needs a 4 day weekend anyway, right?

Today is my update on my training for the Dumbo Double Dare next month.  Wait...did I just say next month? You mean it's almost here!?!? Oh crap.

Momentum Monday: Metaphor

Hello! It's Monday and the start of another week.  A short week for most of you I'm sure due to the holiday on Thursday. I am part of the unlucky few who do have to come back to work on Friday and work when pretty much every vendor we work with is closed. It's going to be a gripping day at work, I'm sure.

In addition to this being a holiday week, the greater Seattle area (well Washington in general) is experiencing unusually high temperatures, like most of the west and southwest states. I have to admit, it's been quite unbearably hot with today being the hottest day of the heat spell; we'll be in the 90's. Ugh.  Now before all you lovely people living in the south and midwest start jumping on me saying those temps aren't hot and I need to pull on my big girl panties and deal with it, let me remind you of one little thing.

Us Pacific Northwesterners...we don't have air conditioning! Office buildings, malls, hotels...all those places have air conditioning. Homes and various other public areas do not have that lovely invention, so trying to sleep is unbearable at times because it is actually cooler outside than it is in the house.

Okay, stepping down from my soapbox now and onto today's Momentum Monday!
